Our favorite routes to explore Switzerland by motorcycle
We’ve started this project after the Lockdown was over this year in Switzerland. We’ve missed so much getting up to the Mountains, that one day we decided to drive together with dad Andreas to one of the Passes that he used to drive by motorcycle. Despite some Passes are quite tight and difficult to drive, others like the Legendary Furka Pass is easy to drive and offers an incredible Alp Panorama.
James Bond film scenery, the Furka Pass is the highest in Switzerland and goes up to 2436m. It starts on Canton Uri; the trip stars in Andermatt. Going down to Canton Valais, another incredible part of this journey was visiting the Gletscher (Glacier). Unfortunately, at the moment (07.20), the Hotel Belvedere, a historical symbol from the place, is closed for renovations, and the access to the Gletscher (Glacier) is closed. Even though it is for sure, the most beautiful pass I ever drive! Take a look at our video from our Furka Experience!
During summer, another great family tip in this region is the Furka steam railway, a nostalgic steam journey through the impressive mountainous countryside, including the Rhone and Mutt glaciers.
The Classic Motorcycle tour includes the Furka, Grimsel, and Sustenpass. So near to each other and so unique somehow! Before driving, take a look if the three passes are open and their conditions.
Our first-time doing a trip on a pass, and to drive along the Pass you need to keep yourself concentrate it all the time. Even though the beautiful landscape, these cannot really be appreciated during the breaks because the Klausen brings curves and more curves, you better drive along if you have experience in quite tiny roads. So, when you are almost done with the pass, and adrenalin comes down slowly, you can take a break at the Bergstübli Waterfall, Canton Glarus. Link for more information here .
