St. Moritz Family Vacations

St. Moritz is one of the most famous Swiss Alpine Villages around the world. Did you know that in St. Moritz the sun shines around 300 days per year? In St. Moritz you can have amazing family holidays during summer and wintertime. Here are some highlights of our last winter family holiday in the St. Moritz region, Switzerland.

One and Only in St. Moritz

CRESTA RUN toboggan track
It is a natural ice run, built from scratch every year with snow which is then iced, as from the inception of the Run in the winter of 1884/85. It starts in St Moritz and winds its way down a narrow valley to what was the village of Cresta, but which now forms part of Celerina. It is approximately 3/4 mile (1,212 m) in length with a drop of 514 feet (157 m). The gradient varies from 1 in 2.8 to 1 in 8.7. The map of our Run gives you additional details.
Starting Points
There are two starting points, Top and Junction. Riders from Junction begin opposite the Clubhouse, about one-third down the Run from the top. Only experienced riders can qualify to ride from the top. The Run has 10 corners, all of which are named. The most infamous is Shuttlecock. If a rider is out of control, he risks going out at Shuttlecock, the most famous corner of the Run. Fallers at Shuttlecock automatically become members of the Shuttlecock Club and are entitled to wear a Shuttlecock tie. (

White Turf, a unique, exclusive, top-class event with exciting horse-racing, gourmet catering, lively music, and inspiring art exhibitions, all taking place in winter sunshine on the frozen lake among the stunningly beautiful, snow-capped mountains of St. Moritz. (

How to get there

St. Moritz is located in the Engadine Region, Canton Graubünden, Switzerland. You can easily arrive by car or train. Information about the train ride, here.

We’ve stayed in Bivio, around 10 km from St. Moritz. You can find family accommodation for value prices in Silvaplana, Sils in Engadin, Celerina, or Pontresina.

Some accommodations that we recommend in Bivio:
– Hotel Grischuna, more on this Post.
– Residenza Plaz: Swiss Chalet for families with Pool and Spa, booking via the website, click here.

Panoramic Trains

The Glacier Express does a panoramic route from St. Moritz to Zermatt, more information on this linkhere.

Ski and Winter Activities

– Iceskating on St. Moritz Lake.
– Skiing/Sledding on Corvilia Ski Resort.

* Switzerland Travel Family tip: Ovaverva Pool, Spa & Sports Centre St. Moritz. We just loved the Kids Pool area and the Outdoor Pool!!
