Spring trip to Amsterdam + Keukenhof (EN)

Sep 28, 2018   |   by Aline   |   3 comments

I participate in a Travel group with some girlfriends, and in April 2017, we made this 4-days trip to Amsterdam. It maybe sounds like a movie name, but it was a real trip! Nine girlfriends and baby traveling through Holland =) Our trip to Amsterdam was from Thursday to Sunday, during the European spring and specially planned at this time, to visit the Keukenhof, a worldwide famous tulip fields Park. As my son was only 06 months old at this time and I was breastfeeding, I decided to take him on the trip; I have to say it was worth it! The only thing that changed in my itinerary about my friends was to book a room just for us while they shared the rooms.

Planning your trip to Amsterdam

The months of April and May are high season in Amsterdam, precisely because the Keukenhof Park is only open at this time. Booking hotels, tours, and tickets in advance is worthwhile.

One detail of our trip, we took too long to buy our tickets to the Anne Frank House, and we ran out! Book online direct from the museum website, link here. Also to visit the Van Gogh Museum, you only can buy tickets online. Link to the museum site here.

We stayed at the Meininger City West Hotel, a comfortable, basic breakfast, young atmosphere, with lots of students and graduates. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Link to Hotel, here

Amsterdam with children

The city, in general, is well accessible with the stroller, the same as train stations. As we visited Amsterdam on the weekend, the center was very crowded, even during the day. Nothing different from other big cities in Europe. We did enjoy it anyway!

Keukenhof Park

Originally, the Keukenhof was a castle, which was built in the 16th century and reformed by the same architects who planned the Vondelpark in the city of Amsterdam. Initially, with a group of 20 tulips producers, who joined in 1949 to make the exhibition of their flowers there, the Park became a world reference. All over the Park, today exposes more than 500 flower growers, and approximately are presented every year around 7 million flowers!

The Keukenhof works only during the European spring season, in 2020, the park will be open from 21.March to 10.May 2020. Arriving at the Keukenhof Amsterdam, take the map and choose the parts of the park you want to visit first! More information on the official website of Keukenhof, link here. Another tip is to buy the Combi-ticket for the Keukenhof at the Hotel, which already includes the round-trip train/bus.

I am Amsterdam

A curiosity about the city symbol “I AMSTERDAM “. The tourism of the metropolis was decentralized, new localities were born as the Amsterdam Beach and Amsterdam Castle to stand out from the center. This sign was released as a marketing strategy to unify neighborhoods, attractions, public transportation, although some residents of the city are extremely against mass tourism!
Resulted in the Iamsterdam online Portal. Another product is the City Card, which includes public transportation, entrance to the leading museums, and attractions of the City and Region.

Prices 2019: 1 day €60, 2 days €80, 3 days €93 (online only) and 4 days €105. For children +10 years old also can benefit from City Card. Can be purchased online, link here
